“When Mozambique launched its ambitious state-financed film institute in the 1970s, the Cine Teatro Nina on Mozambique Island was a thriving venue for cinema.

More than 30 years later, the projectors have been replaced by the smell of hooks and bait and the old cinema has been turned into a warehouse for drying fish.” http://www.theafricareport.com/Music-Film/cinema-mozambiques-film-revival.html

But this is set to change yet again. Mozambique Island has just enjoyed  a fabulous week of African films. Local resident Moira Forjaz brought the Maputo African Film Week to two unique locations on Ilha РCasa Girassol in Stonetown and Recinto Do Antigo Paiol in Makuti Town. And a third location,  Centro Cultural Jembesse on the mainland just across the bridge.

The festival was a great success and funding has been secured for its return in 2015.
