This whale watching trip is designed for a group of friends. It’s the trip we’ve been perfecting over the past 5 years, with lots of whale watching, a wonderful beach lunch and drinks.
Join us to watch the whales as they move around the islands and spend time swimming, exploring and relaxing with a beer and Seafood BBQ on Goa or Sete Paus Island.
Morning tours begin at 8:00 with a full briefing in our shop. This covers everything from whale behaviour, migration, conservation and an outline of the days planned route. We use maps, info-graphics and models to best explain this.
8:30 and off we go, ideally under sail but if conditions require it we can use the motor instead. Usually we sail towards Ilha das Cobras or Ilha de Sete Paus which takes around 45 minutes.
Expect to see whales breaching in the distance, leaping clear out of the water and crashing back down with a tremendous white splash. This is often in the first 30 minutes and makes a very exciting start. Under sail we can glide parallel with the islands. Our aim is to have an unforgettable encounter which is achieved by understanding whale behaviour and maneuvering into the best position – something we do without blocking their path or disturbing the whales in any way. As with all wildlife spotting, patience, respect and experience are what’s required. Exactly how much time we devote to whale watching depends on how lucky we are and how everyone is feeling. Our aim is to be as flexible as possible. With this trip we can also return to whale watching after lunch if that’s what you want.
Lunch is around 13:00 and we aim to arrive back on Ilha by 15:30. Times can be flexible though

“Every whale watching day is different and no two whale encounters are ever the same”
The whales can always be seen close to Ilha at this time of year (if you know how to look), some days closer to the islands and at other times further out to sea. They migrate here from Antarctica to give birth; it really is a very special place.
Abdul is in charge, he has years of whale watching experience. Plus he talks to the returning fishermen early in the morning to get the latest updates on where the whale pods are most likely to be. Add to this his uncanny ability to spot whales long before anyone else can and you have everything you need for whale watching success.
Trust in Abdul and the crew, be patient and you may be rewarded with an encounter you will remember for the rest of your life. It’s not unusual for whales to breach up close, pass just meters beneath the boat or swim across to check us out. If there is a calf present we keep a greater distant from the pod, but calves are inquisitive and may come to us. All of this is permitted; the key is to ensure that the whales are in charge of the encounter, they are free to come and go as they please.
We have a hydrophone – a very sophisticated/expensive submersible microphone. Lowered over the side it allows us to listen to the mezmerising sound of the humpback whales singing to each other.
On the beach we set up shade. We use our time according to the group’s preference.
